Make
the most of your visit
For
those of us who love our food . . . . and who
doesn't?
Hugh
Fearnley-Whittingstall's acclaimed River Cottage Canteen
by the Church. http://www.rivercottage.net/canteens/axminster/
Perhaps
less famous, but much prettier is Gilly and her super
coffee and sandwich bar right next door to The Marle
Gallery
Also
by The Church, the very popular Whitty's Pizzeria and
coffee shop. http://www.whittys.co.uk/
Less
than a mile from Axminster on the A35 towards Honiton is
an excellent and substantial farm shop, Millers, which
produces a vast array of fresh fruit vegetables, meats
and cheeses. http://www.millersfarmshop.com/
Back
to Mr F-W, the River Cottage HQ, Park Farm, is less than
20 minutes from Axminster where Hugh lays on a wide
choice of first-class food courses, cookery school and
dining events etc. http://www.rivercottage.net/
Just
along the coast at Lyme Regis there are too many good
restaurants to mention, but a special treat for fish
lovers would have to be Hix Oyster and Fish House. http://www.hixoysterandfishhouse.co.uk/
For
those of us who love our shag pile . . . . . and who
doesn't love a shag pile?
Incredible
to think that the small town of Axminster boasts
internationally famous brands such as Mr Hugh FW and the
world-famous Axminster Carpets, but its true! Their
factory shop is located a few minutes drive from The
Marle Gallery. http://www.axminster-carpets.co.uk/
For
those of us who love our tools . . . . . no comment.
If
you are the sort who drools over tools (or knows a man
that does), then you'll have an irresistible urge to
visit Axminster Tools in their superb new HQ, again only
a few minutes walk from The Marle Gallery. http://www.axminster.co.uk/
And
for the simple delights of the beautiful English
coastline
You
are less than half an hour's drive from some of
Britain's most beautiful coastline, all accessible from
the South West Coast Path. http://www.southwestcoastpath.com/
The
seaside towns and villages of East Devon and West Dorset
are unspoilt, traditional and worthy of a day's visit in
anyone's money. Our favourites would include:
·
Lyme Regis and its famous Cobb.
·
The incredibly pretty east Devon villages of Beer and
Branscombe
·
The regency town of Sidmouth with lovely beach, great
shops and not an amusement arcade in sight
